FamilyTreeMaker Passenger and Immigration List CD records the 4/29/1880 arrival of Johannes, 38; Ottilia, 38; Lena, 8 (nickname for Carolina, born 1871) and Ottilia, age 4 months (born January 1880 in Rumbach, Germany). Interestingly, the agent records the names only of the oldest (assuming Maria is missing) and the youngest child, together with their ages, since his purpose was to verify that the family's underage children were betwwen 4 mos. and 8 years. Since Maria (Mary, in America) is missing, it is assummed she immigrated later to the U.S. She was approaching age 15, so likely stayed behind with relatives. However, she did immigrate later. It was under her care in 1928 in California that her father, Hohn Kindleberger (1842-1928) died.

This is a possible listing of Mary Kindelberger in the 1880 Cincinnati census. We haven't been able to find here parents and younger brothers and sisters. It is possible that she was working in this family's home while the rest of the family was staying elsewhere in Cincinnati. Supposedly the family all came over together on the ship (even though Mary wasn't listed with the rest of the family). Speculation is that, if this is Mary, she was actually born in 1864, vice 1865, making her 16 at the time of the census.

BIRCHFIELD, Lester Jr. died at his home in Canal Township of inflammation of the bowels and typhoid fever. He was born 23 April 1874, married Miss Flora Deeter November 23, 1894 (incorrect--believe should be 1893), died Oct 23 and was buried at Deckards on the 25th. Services were conducted by pastors of the U. B. Church.
